Sir András Schiff and Iván Fischer agree that Brahms is number one. Or is it a coincidence that their program only includes “A” works by the Viennese-by-choice? Piano Concerto No. 1 and Symphony No. 1 are of course repertoire classics. But the selected Hungarian dances (1 and 11) suggest that there is a method to the one. And of course refers to the quality of the concert experience. Because that can only be – exactly – one thing: first-class.
