"The majority of the Arabian Horse breeders in Egypt preferred the Desert Bred horses as they believed that there they enjoyed a free live under conditions most suitable for breeding and training of the true Arab Horse!

The Desert breeding helps the Arab Horse to keep its beautiful appearance, harmonious formation, hard tendons, powerful muscles and sound respiratory organ - all typical features of the Arab Horse for thousands of years - but which it cannot retain if it has tame and civilised breeding [ outside its original environment.

One of the most glorious studs of Egypt was the ‘Inshass’ Stud, called Inshass because it is housed in the big Inshass Farm in the boundary of a village of the same name. This Farm was owned by ex King Fouad and after him by ex King Farouk and it is situated east of the Delta of Egypt in the Sharkia province. In this province most of the land is desert and because of that the best place for breeding the Arab Horse.

The Inshass Stud was a first class stud for breeding Arab stallions and mares. Many great efforts were made to provide the best conditions for the Arab horses. To provide protection from summer heat, double roofs were built. Nutrition and good management were always an important concern. Most of the horses of Inshass were collected from gifts from King Ibn Sa’ud of Arabia as Sa’udiyah, gifts from the Royal Agricultural Society [ now E. A. O. ], gifts from the King of Jordan, buying some horses from Egyptians, horses purchased from Prince Kamal El Din Hussein who was the president of the Royal Agricultural Society and Prince Mohamed Ali.

All these horses were of best quality and pedigree. After stopping Racing, Inshass horses were only used for breeding purposes. Among these horses there were outstanding specimens of extremely fine qualities. These horses were under the control of Vet. Dr. Rashid Amr who was indeed a real faithful lover of the Arab Horse.

So the Inshass Stud was full of life and prosperity and has been visited from time to time by eminent Egyptians, Orientals and Europeans to see living specimens of real Arab Thoroughbreds and the most modern methods of breeding. Some of the horses of Inshass have been sold at very high prices as El Moez, Nader and Zaher which were sold to the United States and the Gouvernment of South Africa. In the beginning of the Revolution the Army left the horses at Inshass Stud, later on the horses were distributed as follows: to the E. A. O., to the Veterinary Section of the Army, to the Police and some of these horses have been sold to some Egyptian breeders by auction sales.

The horses of Inshass are characterized by their good bodies, lovely head and neck. There is only one original Inshass Studbook. Dr. Sayed El Marei, former Minister of Agriculture, who is a real faithful enthousiast of Arab Horses gave this original copy of Inshass Horses Pedigrees to be kept in the library of the E. A. O. for any lover of horses to search it.
