„The horses bred by the Royal Agricultural Society are the descendants of the authentic Arabian horses imported into Egypt from the Arabian Peninsula by the late Abbas Pasha I, Viceroy of Egypt, and afterwards bred by the late Ali Pasha Cherif. Therefore, a comprehensive record of the history of these horses in the form of a Stud-book, giving details of the different steps taken to preserve them, is much needed not only in Egypt but also abroad.
Breeders and lovers of the authentic Arabian horse abroad are well aware of the fact that most of the famous studs of Arab horses in Europe were devastated during each of the two Great Wars, and Egypt will therefore remain an important centre for breeding and preserving the authentic Arab horse.

The value of such a book lies in the fact that an official general Stud-book of Arab horses in Egypt does not exist yet, and until such a book is formed, the Royal Agricultural Society’s Stud-book will remain unique.
The Head of the Animal-breeding Section of the Society, Dr. Abdel Alim Ashoub, was, however, entrusted with the task of furnishing the requisite data in this valuable book, which is looked upon as a general register of the horses bred by the Royal Agricultural Society of Egypt up to 1947. I hope it will meet the desire of the many lovers of the Arab thoroughbred who wish to familiarise themselves with the history of that particular breed in Egypt.“
