Mit dem Ausbruch der Quarzrevolution musste selbst IWC Schaffhausen eine Lücke im Portfolio füllen. Von IWC wurden daher etwa 600 Beta21 in verschiedenen Versionen hergestellt - "Da Vinci" in Edelstahl, massivem 18-karätigem Gelbgold, massivem 18-karätigem Weißgold und Platin, jeweils etwa 150 Stück. Die erste Serie enthielt das Kaliber 1300 mit der Bezeichnung IWC2001 und eine spätere Serie das Kaliber 1301 mit der Bezeichnung IWC2002. Auch eine Taschenuhr aus 18 Karat Gold wurde in sehr begrenzter Stückzahl hergestellt, aber wahrscheinlich sind die meisten davon eingeschmolzen worden.
Das Uhrwerk sieht aus wie ein fortschrittlicher und komplexer Prototyp und besteht aus drei separaten Modulen, bestehend aus einer Schaltung, dem Uhrwerk und einem Motor. Sobald eine Batterie eingelegt ist, aktiviert sie einen Quarzkristall, der mit einer Frequenz von 8192 Hz schwingt und von der elektronischen Schaltung in kleinere Impulse aufgeteilt wird. Da es damals noch keine Mikroschrittmotoren gab, basiert die B21 auf der Idee der Accutron. Anstelle einer Stimmgabel gibt es einen Resonanzstab mit Permanentmagnet an einem Ende und einem verstellbaren Gegengewicht am anderen Ende. Der Resonator mit juwelenbesetztem Zeigefinger wird durch das Motormodul - eine elektromagnetische Spule, die durch Impulse des Elektronikmoduls gesteuert wird - in Schwingung versetzt.
Das Wort Electronic für diese B21 könnte etwas verwirrend sein, da die IWC-Stimmgabel ESA9162 auch als Electronic beworben wurde. Die Datumsscheibe dreht sich nicht, ein Mangel, der leicht behoben werden kann. Viele der Gold- und Platinstücke wurden eingeschmolzen, was sie extrem selten macht.
Die Uhr kommt im Komplettset mit Original Box und Papieren. Die Uhr ist absolut Original und die Herkunft wurde mir von der IWC Boutique Schaffhausen bestätigt!

With the outbreak of the quartz revolution, even IWC Schaffhausen had to fill a gap in its portfolio. IWC therefore produced around 600 Beta21s in various versions - "Da Vinci" in stainless steel, solid 18k yellow gold, solid 18k white gold and platinum, around 150 pieces each. The first series contained the caliber 1300, designated IWC2001, and a later series contained the caliber 1301, designated IWC2002. An 18-carat gold pocket watch was also produced in very limited numbers, but it is likely that most of them were melted down.
The movement looks like an advanced and complex prototype and consists of three separate modules consisting of a circuit, the movement and a motor. Once a battery is inserted, it activates a quartz crystal that oscillates at a frequency of 8192 Hz and is broken down into smaller pulses by the electronic circuitry. Since there were no microstepper motors back then, the B21 is based on the Accutron idea. Instead of a tuning fork, there is a resonance rod with a permanent magnet at one end and an adjustable counterweight at the other end. The resonator with a jeweled index finger is caused to vibrate by the motor module - an electromagnetic coil controlled by pulses from the electronics module.
The word Electronic for this B21 might be a bit confusing as the IWC tuning fork ESA9162 was also advertised as Electronic. The date disc does not rotate, a defect that can be easily remedied. Many of the gold and platinum pieces were melted down, making them extremely rare.
The watch comes in a complete set with original box and papers. The watch is absolutely original and the origin was confirmed to me by the IWC Boutique Schaffhausen!
