BMW E30 E36 Z3 M42 M44 318 is ti camshaft sprocket improved

For sale is a set (for one engine) of improved camshaft sprockets.
These are suitable to replace the omitted original sprockets from m42 (11311721887) as well as m44 (11361247951).


What was improved?

- The basis is a higher-strength base material for highly stressed machine components. This provides the tough core of the sprocket and has almost twice the tensile strength of the original sprocket.

- In addition, the entire edge area of the component was modified by a special quenching and tempering process. This has increased corrosion resistance and surface hardness which greatly improves wear resistance and longevity.

- Milling with modern multi-axis machining centers has significantly improved surface quality and angular accuracy compared to mass-produced sprockets (often a push process). This results in larger contact surfaces between the teeth and the chain rollers, which contributes to lower surface pressures, thus better power transmission and minimized chain wear.

- The more stable ("blunter") tooth contour like that of the late M42 and the M44 NW sprockets has been retained.

- The sprockets were designed to be used in both M42 and M44 engines.

- The weight has been reduced. To the M44 camshaft sprockets it is about 8g/wheel and to the M42 sprockets about 107g/wheel.

- The timing adjustment range has been extended by 2.5 ° in both directions.

- Centrifugal lubrication holes: Engine oil that collects in the sprockets after the engine is shut down can drain off to a large extent. The remaining oil is conveyed through the lubrication holes after startup, thus providing additional lubrication for the
timing chain
